Our Cedar Lodge care home in Frimley partnered with online care finder Lottie and Guildford-based artist Pie Herring for a heartfelt campaign titled A Life Full of Colour. The project celebrates the individuality and life stories of care home residents through hand-painted portraits. These artworks offer families a deeply personal keepsake and serve as a tribute to the rich lives of their loved ones.
The campaign also aims to encourage more face-to-face connection, especially with older generations whose stories often go untold. During the painting process, Pie spent time with Cedar Lodge resident Valerie, learning about her life as her memories and experiences were captured on camera. The portrait was painted on handmade paper crafted from cedar trees in Japan’s Yoshino mountains, a thoughtful nod to our care home’s name.
When Valerie saw the final piece, she was deeply moved: “I was excited and nervous…once the painting was revealed I nearly cried. It has been a once in a lifetime experience. I really appreciate everyone’s efforts, it’s amazing!”
