Our dedicated activities team prioritise resident wellbeing by organising a variety of meaningful and joyful group, individual and one-to-one activities and experiences. This includes activities tailored for residents who are less mobile and able. Activities are adapted to the daily wishes of residents and their cultural interests and supported by their life-stories in line with Oak Lodge’s ethos of a person-centred approach to care.
We involve families in care and activity planning to gain a personal understanding of what really matters to each resident and learn about their favourite pastimes and hobbies so we can tailor activities to suit their preferences. We encourage social interaction and friendship, and support residents with their individual choices.

Our open visiting policy means family and friends are welcome at any time.
An intergenerational experience with local Queen’s Mary College, as students and residents explore weekly themes such as ‘entertainment and leisure’, ‘high days and holidays’ and ‘landmarks in life’ aided by multi-sensory items from a reminiscence box. The shared stories and experiences of lives in Basingstoke, will inspire poet Kym Devine from Creative Connections to write a series of poems which will be showcased at the Basingstoke Festival on July 5th and 6th.
We began our VE Day celebrations with two of our residents raising the flag, followed by a heartfelt speech from our Home Manager, Grace. After a delicious traditional fish ‘n’ chip lunch, spirits were high as the Surrey Jivers treated us to fabulous jives, taught us some dance moves, and led a nostalgic sing-along with everyone joining in. The celebrations ended on a sweet note with beautifully decorated VE Day-themed cupcakes. A truly special day, honouring the past and celebrating together. Resident Diane quoted, “I had a stunning day!”
Wedding bells at Oak Lodge as we celebrate our very first wedding! Congratulations to Jim and Barbara who tied the knot on April 8th! Commented Anne, Barbara’s sister: “Residents and staff were very excited on the day, and all made the event very special. Jacqui, who is such an amazing organiser put so much effort into making the family room a perfect wedding venue. Barbara was pampered all morning, having her hair done and helped into her beautiful wedding dress…we were all in tears!”
