The couple, who first met at Butlin’s more than seven decades ago, marked their platinum wedding anniversary surrounded by family, friends and staff.
Their love story began when Ree encouraged Bryan to ask her on a date. During their two-year courtship, Bryan regularly travelled from Manchester to Leeds to spend time with her. The couple married on 18 August 1951 and enjoyed a honeymoon in London during the Festival of Britain, followed by a fortnight in Torquay.
After raising two sons, travelling extensively and eventually settling in Hampshire, Ree and Bryan reached the remarkable milestone of 75 years together.
To celebrate the occasion, the team at Rowan Lodge organised a special day inspired by the couple’s honeymoon memories. Ree and Bryan enjoyed a romantic lunch, toasted their anniversary with bubbly and spent time reminiscing over their wedding album.
The celebrations continued with a seaside-themed afternoon on the sunny terrace, inspired by their time in Torquay. The couple listened to favourite songs from their courting days, built sandcastles and enjoyed traditional fish and chips served in paper cones.
Staff said it was particularly heartwarming to see Bryan holding Ree’s hand throughout the day, telling her that his love for her remains as strong as ever.
The team at Rowan Lodge described the celebration as a perfect tribute to the honeymoon and the enduring love story the couple shared 75 years ago.
This love story also featured in the Basingstoke Gazette.
